The Hand that Guides Business

Over the past quarter of a century I have been fortunate to work with all types of CEOs / Owners in all types of business. These have included manufacturers, distribution, service and retail. These have ranged form CEOs who are award winners (Indiana Small Business of the Year) to CEO whose business was bankrupt and sold. (One of the CEOs I had to visit in jail to have some papers signed.) The only commonality is that these are or were all mid sized companies ranging form $1million to $100 million in Revenue with 10 to 1,000 employees. I have been extremely fortunate to work with a wide spectrum of companies who have been both successful and failures.

There have been a numerous books and articles that are focused on Large Business. A few have highlighted successful Mid-Sized Companies that have succeeded, such as Small Giants by Bo Burlingham and Breakthrough Companies by Keith R. McFarland. There are some great tools and processes developed by our Leading Business Thought Leaders that were developed or designed for Large Companies. Some include TopGrading by Geoff Smart;

I have privileged to work with some very successful CEO who have modified these tools to their company size and circumstances. I have also, seen the “Anti” CEO who ignored the thought leaders advice or failed to implement the tools. You can say I have seen it from “both sides”.

Several people have suggested I document my observations on how a Mid-Sized Company can modify the Thought Leaders Tools successfully.
